What stays on your computer
Your PDFs, your highlights, your note field, and your research-cache files belong to you and live on your machine. Innernet does not upload your documents anywhere without you asking it to. The AI tutor's ability to look things up on the web runs on your machine and stays there. "Delete All Data" in settings removes everything, on the spot.
What we keep about your account
Licenses and subscriptions are managed online, and for that we need very little:
- Your email address — how you sign in (by a one-time code) and how your license and subscription are found. We never sell or rent it and never email you marketing unless you ask us to.
- Your license row — the email you signed in with, the tier you bought, and the date. This is what the app checks when you're online.
- Your subscription row — the plan, and whether it renews. Only the subscription is checked.
- Innernet AI metering — if you subscribe, we count the model spend attributable to your account each month (to apply the fair-use allowance). Message volumes and spend are aggregated; we do not use your messages to train models or to profile you.
What passes through our relay
Innernet AI only works when you have signed in to it. To route your request to the model providers, the text you send (a highlight, a page section, your question) and the reply travel through our relay to the AI provider and back. That is the whole extent of what we see, and it is necessary to run the feature. If you run Innernet without Innernet AI, nothing leaves your machine about your reading; documents never leave your device without an action you take.
Payments
Payments are handled entirely by Paddle as merchant of record. Paddle receives your payment details and billing information directly; Inner Networks receives from Paddle only what is needed to fulfil what you bought: typically your email address, the product, the amount, and the payment/tax records for accounting. Paddle has its own privacy policy, which you'll find linked at checkout.
Refunds and support
To process a 14-day refund we need to identify your purchase — that happens through your email address (the purchase itself) via Paddle. Support conversations are kept just long enough to answer your question.
Hardship requests
Free licenses are granted on individual request. We read what you tell us only to consider the request — your story stays between us, is never shared with anyone else, and is not used for anything else. What remains on record once a license is granted is the licence row itself: your email address, the tier, and the date.
Your rights
Write to [email protected] any time and we will show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it (see Deletion). We can give what we hold back to you as a plain file you can take elsewhere. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, tell us first; you may also complain, as applicable to you, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your local data protection authority.
Where it lives, and crossing borders
Our services run from Canada. Account and licensing records are kept on hosted servers in Canada or the United States; payment, tax and refund records are kept by Paddle in the systems it uses to carry out its work as merchant of record (its own privacy policy covers its processing). Where your data crosses a border it does so under the care of the provider carrying it, and only for the purposes this notice describes.
Deletion
Ask at [email protected] and your account rows (license, subscription, metering) are deleted promptly; you'll get a confirmation. Deleting the app's data is local and instant. Records we must keep for Canadian tax and accounting law (invoices, refunds) are kept for the period the law requires and are not used for anything else.
Children
Innernet is meant for readers of serious texts, not children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
